Silviana
Sutter Health has awarded two Allied Health students grants to assist them as they train for careers in nursing and medical assisting.
Silviana comes from a family, where all of the adults have worked in the raspberry fields for the last 13 years. She has watched her cousins, one-by-one drop out of school to work, but Silviana’s parents have encouraged her to stay in school, so that one day, she can take care of herself and others as a Medical Assistant.
She loves helping people and knows that as a bilingual Medical Assistant, she will help those who don’t speak English feel less helpless when accessing medical care. She expressed her appreciation, “I am fortunate to have been chosen for this grant. I can still help my parents pay rent, but one day I will be able to earn much more.”
