Cabrillo College has been selected as one of 20 California Community Colleges for the California Guided Pathways Project, an initiative designed to get students on a path to faster completion and substantially increase the number of students who earn a certificate, degree, or transfer.

The project is a broad-based collaboration led by representatives from colleges, system offices, technical assistance providers, and advocacy organizations. Cabrillo is honored to be at the forefront of this important effort to transform community colleges and be a model for 114 California Community Colleges.

The California Community College Chancellor’s office is committed to ongoing funding for the Guided Pathways Project, earmarking $150M state-wide for the next five years beginning in 2018-19. Of this allocation, Cabrillo College anticipates receiving approximately $1.5M starting next year. Funding of $250,000 is needed to successfully launch implementation in this critical first year of the initiative.

The idea behind the GP model is that students are more likely to complete a degree, certificate, or transfer at a much faster rate if they choose a program and develop an academic plan early on, have a clear road map of courses, and receive guidance and support to stay on thezpath. Instruction and Student Services will be working hand in hand in a way we haven’t seen before. GP will not only substantially improve completion rates, students will be ready for the workforce at a much faster rate.
